Many parents are always seeking ways to help their children improve their academic performance. They make their children spend more hours doing their homework instead of developing effective learning habits. As a mother, I always want my child to score well in his class. In seeking a solution to this problem, I explored various books, online courses, and private tutoring; none of these methods proved helpful. After detailed research, I identified five simple & effective study tips that help children improve their academic performance.
1. Creating a Study Schedule
Regular study is the key to success during our children's academic years. We should start planning and implementing their study schedules in our kids' daily routine. This will definitely help children to regulate their daily routine to achieve great success throughout their lives. Always encourage your child to set proper time for their academic studies. Help them understand that completing homework on time reduces stress and allows them to achieve their goals within the given time. When we help our children follow a routine, we can build discipline and maintain regularity in their daily tasks.
2. Finding the Right Environment
A positive environment is as important as eating healthy food. We make sure
Our children always study in a positive and healthy environment where everyone encourages one another. Give them a quiet, well-lit, and distraction-free environment while they study. The brain gets into a study mode when they have a dedicated study corner. A dedicated study space is just what is needed in the corner of the room to improve the focus and dedication of your child. But instead of leaving them alone, try to get involved with them and understand what they are learning.
3. The Active Learning Techniques
Simply reading any topic within your textbook is really helpful for staying on track with the syllabus. The more they read, the better they learn, so encourage them to choose any topic and start reading. After reading, encourage them to use these learning techniques:
- Summarizing their topic in their own words
- Discuss the topic with the mentor
- Creating flashcards for key terms and concepts
- Practice quiz and assessments
- Taking a break after every 40-45 minutes
4. Taking a Break After Every 30-40 Minutes
Studying without taking a break can lead to burnout and make them more irritated. So make sure your kids take a break regularly. During their break, they can go for a walk, meditate, and sip a healthy drink. Just remember the "Pomodoro Technique" when studying for about 25 minutes, followed by a 5-minute break. Such a break can make your child feel fresh and prevent mental fatigue.
5. Enough Sleep and Eat Healthy
Physical well-being is the most important, as a healthy body is linked to a healthy brain. Always ensure your child gets proper sleep at the right time and maintains healthy eating habits. These practices allow the healthy functioning of the mind and body. Good academic performance is built on taking care of our children. It's not only about them; we are the pillar for our children. Without us, they are left unguided, uncertain, and less productive. So always take care of your children, provide for them (within your means), nurture them, and support them whenever they need.
